Machakos 'First Ladies ' Launch Separate HIV-AIDS And Cancer Campaigns

Machakos 'first ladies' Josephine Mutua and Lilian Nganga have embarked on separate campaigns to fight HIV/AIDS and cancer in the county.

Josephine launched a CD of the Kenya network of HIV positive teachers (KENEPOTE) at the Anglican church. A pharmacist by profession,Josephine said she was approached in 2004 in Dubai while staying there with her husband to come and work in Kenya and help expand treatment for HIV sufferers which she accepted.

' In 1993,I was working with the gay and lesbian community in the united states who were hardest hit by the pandemic so I know what am talking about' Josephine said.

She also urged women to go for cancer screening for both breasts and cervical.

She at the same time urged women to go for cancer screening for both breasts and cervical adding that she had conducted several testings with the assistance of international organizations.

Lilian Nganga also launched a cancer screening on 23th october.

'My husband's government is currently renovating and constructing new health facilities in the county to ensure the well being of our people. We are also in the process of equipping hospitals with medicine and machines to offer the best services to the people. Soon, we will have renal dialysis services not only in the Matuu Level 4 Hospital but in several other facilities' Lilian said.
