Earlier this morning, my boy Chege got the opportunity to talk to Papa Dennis and his financier Sadat. And from all accounts it was quite the interesting conversation given the amount and quality of information Chege got from the tet-a-tete.

And as he excitedly regaled me with tidbits from the conversation, one thing stuck to my mind -the cost of Papa Dennis' new video Injili. And what I think is that this is mind-blowing because though he (Papa Dennis) refused to disclose the full cost of the video shoot, he did intimate and hint and pussy foot around it enough for us to deduce that it's the most expensive video a Kenyan has ever shot.

Let's get into the details:

  • The Maserati in the video cost 2000 dollars a day to hire.

  • The Lamborghini cost 2000 dollars a day to hire.

That is a mind boggling 357,298.00 Kenya shillings for each car given that the video shoot took two days. When you double that, you get the mind boggling sum of 714,596.00 Kenya Shillings for both vehicles for two days.

  • The camera (Arri Alexa) they used for the video shoot cost 2000 Rands a day. That's 15,939.55 for each day.

Add to that cost the fact that they closed off an entire street for the video shoot and they hired the location for both days and you see why Sherlock Holmes would say, "Elementary my dear Watson."

And according to Sadat who is a business man and philanthropist, they paid a lump-sum for the video. No installments. And take into account the fact that they paid the extras in the video and took care of the food and catering for the crew and you understand why I say this was the most expensive video a Kenyan has ever done.

Check out the video below and let us know whether you think it was worth the money:
