Matungwa Mutatina, a Tanzanian translator made headlines after getting the words of South African president Cyril Ramaphosa wrong.

Mutatina is a man that has a degree in this field and has been in the industry for 20 years.

During the state funeral of late President Magufuli in Dodoma, Ramaphosa said,

Magufuli was not a great traveller, he didn’t travel very much, he prefers to stay at home

Mutatina, made headlines after translating these words to;

Magufuli alikuwa ni mtu imara mwenye upendo ambae alipenda kusikiliza pia na kuweza kutoa Muongozo kwa wenzake.’

Well, speaking to Tanzania's Clouds FM, Mutatina says he didn't hear the words well.

"What happened was, I didn't hear correctly what he had said even with the fact that everyone else heard him very well"

"When people laughed, I automatically knew, I had messed up so I had to do retrospective interpretation."

Adding;

"Nilichotafsiri cha tofauti ni yale maneno ambayo nilikuwa nayasikia moja moja hivyo ikabidi niunganishe yale maneno machache ambayo nilikuwa nayasikia na nikapata kile nilichokisema”

Mutatina apologized for the wrong translation.
