U.S. President Barack Obama spent his weekend in Kenya as he attended the Global Entrepreneurship Summit as a co-host alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta. During his stay, there were a few mishaps here and there. The following ten were the most noticeable;

1. His itinerary was leaked

This was protocol breached, in black and white. This happened on July 13th when the Kenyan Aviation Authority sent out a memo to all airports in the country. “Jomo Kenyatta and Wilson will be closed as follows,” the email read, detailing the 40-50-minute window when Air Force 1 was scheduled to land and take off during his visit. This was a fail, but the U.S. Secret Service did not change his itinerary even after this happened. Typically, the space around the airport when Air Force one is landing is locked down until the president's motorcade departs.

2. At the airport, there was no one to pull back his chair

Obama arrived last Friday evening and was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta and top government officials. A little girl named Joan Wamaitha, an orphan from the state-run Mariakani Primary School in South B presented him flowers after which he filled in the guest book. However, once he sat down, there was no one at his back to pull his chair when he was done signing. This was another major fail. The president struggled a little to stand up before an official came to his rescue.

3. Babu Owino was allowed to State House Even After Making Threats

This was received with mixed reactions as people didn't get why Uhuru went ahead to invite the scandalous UON leader. Babu is the controversial varsity body chair who wrote a memo to the US embassy demanding that Obama visit the campuses or students would kill themselves and urinate on a tree that he had planted during his 2006 visit as a Senator for Illinois.

4. Uhuru's aide was blocked from touching the beast

Jomo Gecaga took to IG on Friday and shared photos of himself touching what seemed like The Beast, Obama's presidential car. On set, a secret service agent is seen cautioning him against touching the bonnet. This sparked an online conservation, with some people calling him a "groupie" and some saying that it was "Very infantile." Some made jokes out of the whole occasion. Others said it was his moment so he deserved it.

5. Obama confused the beast for the decoy

At the airport when Obama landed and signed the visitors book, he departed to board one of the waiting sleek cars. Uhuru escorted him towards the car, which turned out to be a decoy. A secret agent came and pointed towards where the real Beast was. This was a slight mishap; we're all humans though. Such is bound to happen.

6. Grass did not grow

Nairobi governor Dr. Evans Kidero sparked a national conversation when he instructed workers to plant grass around the CBD, in an effort to make it look beautiful ahead of Obama's visit.

7. What Was President Uhuru Left Doing At The Airport After Obama Left?

When Obama arrived at the airport in his Marine 1 helicopter, he immediately bid the leaders goodbye and boarded his Air Force 1 plane and headed to Ethiopia. He did not give the whole nation a good-bye mini-speech. Once he was airborne, our President stayed on location a little longer, whereas he should have just gotten into his car and gone back to State House. That was kind of weird.

8. Obama got the elephant poaching figures wrong

BBC has just reported, among its 12 notable things from Obama's visit, that POTUS got the elephant poaching figures wrong. He said, "20,000 elephants have been lost in recent years". However, Kenyan leading environmental conservationist, Dr. Paula Kahumbu, who was among the Civil Society members that POTUS was addressing, took the moment to correct him. Paula, who is the CEO of WildLife Direct, said that 30,000 elephants are killed in Africa every year, which makes it one every 15 minutes.

9. Obama could not pronounce "Kenyatta" and "Auma" correctly

This was noticeably one of the things that went wrong during Obama's visit. He pronounced "Kenyatta" as "Kenyarra" and "Auma" as "Ooma." This comes across as weirdly or funny since these were the two most important people that he interacted with during his visit. We can't blame him, since during his speech at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, he just said that he is a proud American with an African parent.

10. Thika superhighway was closed on Sunday but Obama opted to use Marine 1

Just after addressing the audience at the Safaricom Indoor Arena at Kasarani, POTUS opted to use his helicopter to go to Kenyatta University. Many had expected to see him but there was a radical change of plans. Thereafter, he boarded the Marine 1 again and headed straight to the airport, before flying out of the country. It was not normal since closing the highway ended up to be an effort in futility.
