10 Prominent Kenyans Who Died In 2015

2015 has been an incredible year. We made progress as a country but also faced a few challenges. We lost several influential people in our society, some of them leaders and others entertainers. They will truly be missed. Here are some of the Kenyans who passed away this year;

1. Fidel Odinga

The late Fidel passed away at the start of the year, . He died at home following what was said to be a case of food poisoning. Fidel was known for his flamboyant lifestyle and warm relations with friends and family. He left behind a beautiful wife Gatachew Bekele and son Allay Odinga.

2. Ahmed Darwesh

The late KTN Swahili news anchor passed away on December 14, having suffered from Diabetes for quite some time. He was buried the next day, December 15 in Mombasa. Various public figures - including NTV's Larry Madowo and KTN's Joy Biira - opened up about their relationship with him. He came across as a humble and compassionate man.

3. Murimi wa Kahalf

The late singer was popular for the song "Ino Ni Momo". He , having been hospitalized at Aga Khan Hospital for two months. His dying wish was for his two daughters to be taken care of and be able to finish school.

4. Mzee Ojwang

The legendary actor in July after battling a long illness. Mzee Ojwang made us laugh while growing up; we loved his character on TV. During his 4 decades in comedy, he mentored many and uplifted souls. He will surely be missed. May he Rest In Peace.

5. George Muchai

The late Kabete MP back in February by gunmen in Nairobi. The incident took place along Kenyatta Avenue. Several suspects were arrested following the murder.

6. Nana Gichuru

The popular actress when her BMW convertible hit a stationary lorry along the Eastern by-pass back in September. The Kenyan entertainment fraternity was heavily affected by the loss of a soulful, talented woman. She was a KQ employee who was also a cast member in "How To Find A Husband".

7. Mzee Moroa Galana

Galana will be remembered for his immense contribution to the country. He was one of the people who composed the Kenya national anthem. in November at Hola District Hospital after a brief illness. After Kenya gained independence, he assisted in the making of the tune which is still in use to date. It was derived from a Pokomo traditional song.

8. Njuguna Macharia

He was widely known as the owner of, a popular bar along Waiyaki Way here in Nairobi. The place offers a relaxing ambiance, good drinks and nyama choma. The news was broken by Kiss FM's Shaffie Weru.

9. Galma Godana

The former Moyale MP at his Syokimau home by unidentified gunmen back in February. This was barely a week after the death of Kabete MP George Muchai.

10. Kelvin Rost

He was a popular Tahidi High actor. Kelvin in August having succumbed to an Asthma attack. He was 20 years old, orphaned and staying with relatives as he hustled to make it in acting. He had started to create a major fan base for himself before his untimely death. Many of his fans and close friends mourned his passing...he'll be missed.
