A bride-to-be, who claims her fiancé sold their house to 'get the perfect ring' has been shamed by internet users who said it looks like 'costume jewellery'.

The anonymous woman, from the US, posted a photograph of her flower-shaped 'purple diamond' ring to the  group on Monday.

Anticipating a skeptical response, the bride-to-be declared 'Yes it is real and custom designed' and 'it's a purple diamond, look it up' alongside the snap.

But social media users were less than impressed with the engagement ring, with one writing it looks like 'part of a fairy dress up costume'.

A user said:

Why would you sell your house for a ring. Let alone a ring that looks like part of a fairy dress up costume.

Another commented: 'I think your finger is having an allergic reaction to all that ugly'.

And a third added:

Can you get the house back? Damn. Horrible.

'What cupcake did you find that on??? I haven't seen that in Greggs,' commented another.

Others were convinced the controversial post was a joke, with one social media user writing: 'You sold your house?! This is satire. I refuse'.

Another said:

This is a joke. Either that or ya'll have way more serious issues than the ring. Selling a house for a ring? Good luck in life. Ya'll desperately need it.

'I wish I clearly had the privilege to sell a house for a ring. Better yet one that looks like a gawdy Claire's clearance rack reject.

'I do however appreciate a good joke. Which is all this can be'.
