The Meteorological department forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall in Nairobi from late afternoon, evening, and night on Tuesday.

Updating its seven-day forecast on Monday evening, the weatherman predicts most parts of the city to receive rains of up to 20mm, intensifying to around 50mm in some areas later on.

Areas such as Kasarani, Embakasi East and South, Roysambu, Kibra, and Lang’ata are expected to receive moderate rains of up to 20mm.

Dagoreti South and North, Westlands, and Roysambu are forecasted to receive between 20mm to 50mm rains from late afternoon to nighttime.

Starting from 6 pm, parts of Westlands are anticipated to receive rains between 50mm to 60mm.

This pattern is expected to persist until 3 am Wednesday when the rains are forecasted to decrease to 20mm.

In its weather outlook for May 7 to 13, the Kenya Met predicts continued rainfall in several parts of the country.

“Heavy rainfall events are likely in some parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and the Rift Valley during the first half of the forecast period,” the agency stated.

Counties such as Laikipia, Nyeri, Muranga, and Kirinyaga are expected to experience very cold nights of less than 10°C, particularly over some parts of the Central Highlands.

Night temperatures are expected to range between 10-15°C in various counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Narok, Machakos, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, and Makueni.

“High average daytime temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in most parts of the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya,” the forecast revealed.

“Rainfall intensities across the country are likely to reduce during the second half of the forecast period,” the weatherman concluded.

The Meteorological department, along with the government and humanitarian agencies like the Kenya Red Cross, continue to caution Kenyans against risking their lives by crossing flooded rivers or driving through waterlogged roads.

“If you encounter a flooded road, turn around, don't drown,” advised the Ministry of Health.

“Seek alternative routes and exercise extreme caution on roads affected by heavy rains,” the ministry emphasized.

According to the latest government data, 238 individuals have lost their lives due to drowning caused by massive flooding resulting from ongoing torrential rains.
