The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) has announced the closure of a section of the United Nations Avenue road in Runda over flooding.
In a statement on Monday, the Authority said the road has been closed due to the continued rise in water levels on the road.
It said this was a result of the heavy rains experienced on Sunday night.
"The Kenya Urban Roads Authority regrets to inform the public that UN-Avenue, Runda has been closed due to the rising water levels on the road following the heavy downpour experienced last night.
"The sections affected are between off Ruaka Road roundabout and Magnolia close. (The Lord Erroll Restaurant)." Kura said.
The Authority urged motorists to use alternative routes to their destinations.
Kura added that they will continue to monitor the situation.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and will update on the progress. We urge Motorists to use alternative routes and exercise caution."
The ongoing heavy rains in Nairobi and across the country have caused significant damage to property as well as loss of lives.
This has also seen the closure of roads, among other measures being taken by the state to keep Kenyans safe.
Others have been urged to move to higher and safer grounds as a result of home flooding.
The death toll from floods situation as of Sunday stood at 228.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said the ongoing flooding has also left 164 people with injuries while 72 others are currently reported missing.
In a statement on Sunday, Mwaura said approximately 212,630 persons from 42,526 households have been displaced.
Cumulatively, he said, 223,198 people have been affected by floods countrywide.
Mwaura said Homa Bay, Kajiado, Nakuru, Mandera and Nairobi counties are the worst affected by the ongoing heavy rains that have unleashed floods of unprecedented proportions.
He said the government continues to effect the 24-hour evacuation notice issued on May 2.
The government is also facilitating logistical support by providing alternative accommodation and essential supplies to those affected, he added.
