Police are investigating a tragic incident in which two boys aged 12 and 13 drowned at an apartment swimming pool in Kilimani, Nairobi.

The two were on a swimming expedition on Sunday afternoon when they drowned, police said.

Police said they were called to the scene and found the lifeless bodies of the two boys next to the pool.

The bodies were later moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

It is not clear if a guide was at the pool at the time of the incident.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei termed the incident tragic adding an investigation had been opened.

He advised swimming pool attendants to always be keen whenever they have people at the facilities.

"Most swimming pools are usually busy at weekends hence the need for caution from guardians," he said.

"Some of those venturing into the waters do not know how to swim. We urge caution from the attendants and other concerned parties." 

Drowning incident in Kwale

In Taru, Kinango, Kwale, the bodies of two minors aged six and four were found floating at Kwa Ruwa water pan after drowning.

The incident happened in Makamini "D" village within Malomani location.

The brothers were taking care of their animals when they drowned in the water on February 10.

The boys are said to have ventured into the water as the cows were grazing when they drowned, police said.

The bodies were discovered by other villagers who went to the water pan hours later.

They were retrieved and later released to the families for burial rites.

Police said they are investigating the tragedy.

Nakuru

Meanwhile, in Elmentaita, Nakuru, one Elijah Mutheki drowned in a dam.

The man was busy working at a farm when the incident happened on February 10, police said.

Police said they are investigating the drowning incident, which happened in Ngesha village.

The body was retrieved from the dam and taken to the mortuary pending autopsy.
