Catholic priest collapses and dies at centre in Karen

He was rushed to Karen Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A Catholic priest died in their camp in Nairobi's Karen area after collapsing, and the police are looking into the incident.

Father Sebhatleab Ayele Tessema, 67, was initially found unwell in his house at the Comboni Study House along Silanga Road in Karen.

Police and fellow priests at the Comboni Missionaries Adams Arcade said they had been informed the deceased had not woken up.

They visited the house and found him. He complained of having bad flu with breathing difficulties on Saturday morning.

They called an ambulance to escort him to the hospital but he collapsed while in his house as he was being prepared.

He was rushed to Karen Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to Chiromo Mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Elsewhere in Mathare slums, a taxi driver was electrocuted as he showered in his bathroom.

Salvanus Otieno, 38, was bathing at an iron sheet makeshift when he was electrocuted at the weekend.

It is believed the structure had live wire connected to it and when Otieno touched the iron sheet he was electrocuted.

Along Upper Hill Links Road near Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) perimeter wall, pedestrians found a body of an unknown male adult.

Police visited the scene and it was established that it was a member of a street family aged about 25 years old and had no visible injuries.

Police said they are also investigating an incident in which a woman’s body was found in her house in Kariobangi North shopping centre.

The body of Mercy Wanjira Ngumi’s body was found on her bed with no visible injuries.

Police said they found tablets and documents for TB beside the bed. The body was moved to the mortuary pending probe.

And in Hamza estate, Buruburu, police said they are investigating an incident in which a three-month-old baby was found dead on the bed.

The mother of the child said she left her sleeping and went to the shop but when she came back she found her unresponsive.

The body of Alicia Akin was taken to the mortuary pending probe.
