• Perfectly drawn eyebrows are like salt in food, they compliment the look and have a bossy yet casual effect on the person.

Eyebrows have been a key symbol for ladies since time immemorial.  Most ladies got to be recognized by their choice of eyebrow wear.

Since every generation had its own style of eyebrows it became easily noticeable who came from which generation and who isn't from the same.

Eyebrow designs have been changing ever since the 1920s till date. Each decade had its own unique design for shaping the eyebrows.

Some went for a cool line on their eyebrows while others went for a bushy effect. When all efforts to draw the perfect eyebrows failed ladies decided to use their famous words" They are sisters, not twins msitusumbue"

After claiming that ladies continue flexing their misshaped eyebrows to the world.

Below are the various designs of eyebrows over the decades.

1) The 1920's - Sophisticated thin

During this decade, make-up started to become more accessible, it was majorly used by film people when they were shooting movies. People began copying this trend and began carrying portable makeup everywhere.

Other than carrying heavy make-up, short bobs and wearing flapper dresses people had very thin defined eyebrows with the tail of the brows sweeping down.

The brows were slightly elongated past the natural end of the tail.

If you want to recreate this type of brow.

• Start by drawing a thick line at the beginning of the brow

For the tail of the brow, apply a thin line moving a little out and downwards.

2) 1930's -Bare and pencilled-in

The eyebrows in this decade became thinner and had the same width from the beginning of the brow to the end of the brow with an exaggerated and round, symmetrical arch.

To recreate this look one will need either a face liner, contour pencil or cake eyeliner.

Draw a single opaque line in an almost half-moon effect which starts from the bottom corner of the brow and smoothly curves upwards past the highest point of the natural arch and the tail is slightly off

3) 1970's- Natural and full

This era focused on the natural look more than the beauty and perfect shapes of eyebrows. The brows were left to grow out naturally and they were not shaped at all.

The main reason for not shaping was for the brow to create its own shape so brushing could be done easily.

4) 1990's - Plucked to extinction

The trend for eyebrows in the 1990s was thin and arched, but often too short at the end due to plucking or waxing.

5) 2010's - Carved out and overly filled

In this era, ladies decided to fill the whole eyebrow surface with eye pencils. Others even went ahead and decided to draw a tattoo to represent the brows.

While others applied henna on their eyebrows to make them look full and fluffy. Those who decided to draw with eye pencils drew tarmac roads on their faces because of how thick the eyebrow was.

6) 2021- Fluffy

These days the eyebrow trend is "anything goes". This is a modification of the carved-out and overly filed brow. This trend is characterised by a more natural, fluffy brow.

The brows brushed up and then comped to form a more bushy effect and increase the length of the brows. The brows can also be made by using a forming gel or cine-wax to make them look fuller and fluffy.
