Residents of a small village in Uganda witnessed a rare spectacle after a senior government official got laid to rest with Sh200 million Ugandan shillings.

Chris Obong - who worked in the Ministry of Public Health for about 10 years - passed away on December 17 after many years of fighting chronic illness.

Before he gave up his ghost, the 52-year-old left a will clearly stating that his wife, Margaret Obong, should deposit a large sum in his coffin.

Obong further instructed his brother Justin Ngole and sister Hellen Aber to see to it that his will was fulfilled.

Reports indicate that Obong planned to use the money to 'bribe' God so that he can forgive his sins and save him from hellfire.

While working as a public servant, Obong was involved in a corruption scandal that saw the government lose Sh257 billion shillings.

The money he was buried with was meant to be used to make amends for his wrongdoings while working at the ministry.

However, Obong's body was exhumed a few days ago after some members of his family got wind of his plans.

His wife later confessed that he had asked to be buried with the large sum so that he could offer it to God on judgement day.

Ms Obong reportedly escaped with Sh200 million ($5,700) that was found when the coffin was opened.
